Hosting American Degree Giving - April
2001
GML
hosted a party of 40 American Masons from three different Constitutions – Illinois, Delaware and New Jersey – who gave a Third
Degree to one of their new members in a remarkable way. The first part of the
ritual was conducted in formal dress but the second part saw the Americans
dressed in full Colonial Costume. The Legend of the Third Degree was
effectively acted out as if it was a stage play, entertaining and fascinating
the members of GML and their guests.
GML & Grand Lodge’s 275th Anniversary - June 2000
GML’s
role in the 275th Anniversary of Grand Lodge of Ireland was to host
a Meeting of the Lodge for 250 visitors from all over the world and to provide
a demonstration of a Second Degree under the capable direction of the then RW
Acting Master David McKee. The Brethren then retired to lunch and to the
largest number of people that Campbell Catering had ever served in Molesworth Street.
Charity Donation in GML’s 250th Year - December 1999
GML
nicely squared off its 250th Anniversary in 1999 with a £5,000
donation for the Masonic Charities and one non-Masonic cause. The major
fund-raiser was a Grand Raffle which yielded significant sums for the VJ Fund,
the Haven and Welfare Fund while a £1,000 was handed over (see photo) to the
Children’s Leukaemia Research Trust by the then Acting Master David McKee
(right) and Selwyn Davies, Chairman of the Metropolitan Board.
